About Us

The Therapy Garden was founded by my husband, David Dietzway  and myself, Kathryn Dietzway, in 2019. The idea of The Therapy Garden was first discussed between David and I while kayaking on Bayou St. John in New Orleans on a hot summer evening in 2017.  The dream was to found a therapy practice with an ambiance that matched the idea of healing and wellness, rather than one that felt sterile and overly serious. I dreamt of a setting that would one day feel like a greenhouse in aesthetics, with plants vining and thriving, where nature would be incorporated into the healing work. After working in the New Orleans public school system and in an HIV/AIDS non-profit, I had learned that the majority of mental health struggles were caused by trauma, which is what led me to take a deep dive into evidence-based trauma therapy. Being Trauma-focused was a huge part of The Therapy Garden dream; rather than asking what is wrong with you, I wanted to ask: "what has happened to you, and how can we support you in healing from that?" David brought to this dream over 10+ years of experience in the business, accounting and finance fields as well as a practicality and leadership vision that would support the dream in not only coming alive, but in thriving. The Therapy Garden started out in 2019 with one therapist; myself, and now includes a psychotherapist team of 13. Our mission is to connect Acadiana and surrounding areas to evidence-based mental health therapy that is trauma-informed, diversity allied, and views your mental health through a holistic lens, bringing the connection of the mind, body and even Earth into your healing process. Together, David and I run The Therapy Garden on a full-time basis; David on the finance/business and operations side, and myself on the clinical side. We are passionate about this business; it more than a job, it's our calling. Although we are the owners, we truly would not be what we are without our team of passionate therapists. We are honored to hold space for your healing at our two offices in Lafayette.
