Maria Robinson, MSW, LCSW

Maria Robinson (she/her) is passionate about providing client-centered care and has pursued education and networking that supports her serving a wide variety of backgrounds and identities. Her approach integrates trauma-informed therapies, laughter, radical social justice, and an abundance of compassion. She excels at working with adult clients who have histories of complex trauma, early attachment wounds, complex relationships to family of origin, and difficulties with self-acceptance.

Maria completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology with minor in LGBTQIA+ and Sexuality Studies, Community Action and Social Change, and Music at the University of Michigan in 2014. She then moved to New Orleans where she completed her Master’s in Social Work at Tulane University in 2016. Maria is fully trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), which is primary modality that structures her practice as a psychotherapist. She has also completed training in Attachment-Focused EMDR (AF-EMDR), a modification to increase the client’s comfort and sense of security during processing. Additionally, she has completed training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Solution Focused Therapy which can be utilized to help clients manage current stressors while working through past trauma.

Maria works from an anti-oppression, anti-racist, decolonial, and restorative justice perspective. She is passionately committed to affirming those in the LGBTQIA+ community, Black people, people of color, trans and gender expansive persons, sex workers, those in polyamorous or non-monogamous relationship structures, and provides therapy that is sex positive and kink positive.

Outside of work Maria enjoys spending time with her chosen family and inviting chaos into her home via many foster kittens.

Maria is a climate change aware therapist and enjoys supporting clients in coping with anxiety, grief, and any other feelings surrounding macro-level ecological stressors our world is facing.
