Lauren Cordell

Psychotherapist

Therapist working with preteens through adults

Lauren Cordell (she/her) is in the process of obtaining her PLPC credential and will begin seeing clients at the end of January. She is passionate about fostering autonomy, resilience, and connection in an inclusive, collaborative environment. Lauren provides a safe, affirming space where you can explore your authentic self, navigate life’s challenges, and develop a meaningful connection between your mind, body, and values.

Lauren works with preteens, teens, young adults, and adults, specializing in areas such as self-esteem, identity exploration, relationship dynamics, neurodiversity, anxiety, and decision-making. She also helps clients address the impact of larger societal challenges, including colonialism, systemic racism, and societal stigma, empowering you to understand and navigate how these issues influence your well-being. Additionally, Lauren is dedicated to supporting individuals through significant life transitions, including the complexities of processing the end of life, with empathy and respect. Her practice is affirming and inclusive of all identities, including neurodivergent individuals, the LGBTQ+ community, those in polyamorous or ethically non-monogamous relationships, and gender-expansive identities. Lauren is also committed to supporting individuals navigating experiences related to bipolarity, borderline personality, or schizophrenia with compassion and understanding.

Using a holistic and somatic framework, Lauren incorporates mindfulness, Polyvagal Regulation, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help you connect with your emotions, release stored trauma, and build resilience. Creative interventions like lyric analysis, music therapy, and journaling provide opportunities for self-expression and deeper emotional exploration. Additionally, Lauren uses tools such as thought defusion, inner child reparenting, and self-compassion practices to promote emotional healing, enhance resilience, and foster a sense of inner peace.

Lauren’s Message to You:

"You are the expert in your life. Therapy is a space where your voice truly matters—a place to heal, grow, and rediscover your strength. Whether you’re struggling with past experiences, current challenges, or the pressures of life, I’ll walk alongside you as you reconnect with your resilience, navigate life’s complexities, and move toward the life you envision. Together, we will honor your story, work through pain, and celebrate progress."

Lauren values ongoing professional development to ensure her practice reflects the most compassionate and informed care. In 2024 she attended the LCA State Conference, the ACA National Conference, and the UC Virtual Conference where she earned continuing education on Ethical Non-Monogamy, Principled Prisons, Psychological Capital, Legislative Advocacy, Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy, Decolonized Clinical Practice, Hip-Hop Informed Therapy, Working with Survivors of Human Trafficking, Complicated Burnout, and Play Therapy for Trauma. She has also received continuing education in LGBTQ+ Advocacy, Transgender Advocacy, Ethics & Values, Multiculturalism, and CBT for Anxiety. She integrates this diverse training into her work to better support her clients’ unique journeys.

Lauren is a member of the Society for Sexual, Affectional, Intersex, and Gender Expansive Identities (SAIGE), the Association of Counseling Sexology & Sexual Wellness (ACSSW), and Chi Sigma Iota, the international honor society for counseling. She is passionate about advocacy and volunteers with the Human Rights Campaign and the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom. During her academic career, she participated on her university’s ethics team, earning honorable mention in the ACA National Ethics Competition. Due to her active involvement in the 2024 ACA National Conference in New Orleans, Lauren was awarded entry into the 2025 ACA National Conference in Florida, where she will continue expanding her therapeutic knowledge to better serve her clients.

Beyond her therapeutic work, Lauren finds joy spending time with her chosen family, visiting local parks, reading, gardening, and meditating. She is an active participant in her community, volunteering annually for Festival Acadiens et Créoles and Festival International. A devoted animal lover, Lauren cares for four cats, two dogs, a ball python, and an axolotl. She is deeply passionate about animal rescue, dedicating her time and energy to providing care and finding safe, loving homes for animals in need.

Lauren holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Louisiana Tech University and a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of the Cumberlands (UC). She aligns her work with values of social justice, inclusivity, and holistic wellness, creating a space where you can feel seen, heard, and empowered.
