Miranda Charles, MA, PLPC
Psychotherapist
Miranda Charles is a Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor and is working towards independent licensure through the Louisiana Professional Counselor Board of Examiners. Miranda first approaches therapy from a client-centered lens which means that she prioritizes the relationship between the client and the therapist. Secondly, Miranda approaches therapy from a psychodynamic lens which means that she believes that most of our reactions, thinking patterns, and behaviors stem from
experiences during formative years in early childhood. In practice, Miranda works to be eclectic/trauma-informed, adjusting her counseling approach to the needs of the client. Miranda pulls from various psychotherapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Strengths Based Therapy, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy.
Miranda focuses on generational trauma, adverse childhood experiences, suicidal ideation and behavior, identity development, self-image, and the treatment of anxiety and mood disorders. Miranda is a therapist who is passionate about mental health awareness and social justice. She is an ally to the LGBTQ+ community and culturally diverse populations.
Miranda has a lot of experience in suicide prevention and crisis intervention. She provides therapy to adolescents and adults. While working with adolescents, Miranda also provides support to parents to assist them with developing insight into their child’s experience and how to best support their child’s recovery. Miranda believes parental involvement, reinforcement, and setting the example of emotional regulation is vital to a teen’s recovery.
Miranda earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in Family and Child Studies in 2019. She then earned her Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology in 2022. She was awarded these degrees both from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA.
Outside of work, Miranda enjoys reading, writing, video games, discussing personality theories such as Myers-Briggs and the Enneagram, and spending time with her two cats, Kitty and Romeo.
