Miranda Charles, MA, PLPC

Psychotherapist

Miranda Charles is a Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor through the Louisiana Professional Counselor Board of Examiners and is currently working towards independent licensure, which she expects to obtain later this year. Miranda is a therapist who is passionate about mental health awareness and social justice. She is an ally to the LGBTQA+ community and culturally diverse  populations.

In her therapy practice, Miranda first operates from a humanistic lens, embracing authenticity and extending compassion for the emotional and behavioral complexities that come with being human. Miranda prioritizes the therapist-client relationship, as she believes this is the most important part of
the therapeutic process.

Miranda secondly operates from a somatic/psychodynamic lens, viewing mental health symptoms as a product of unprocessed negative past experiences that are stored in the nervous system. Miranda is a Certified Trauma Professional through Evergreen Certifications. She holds a specialized knowledge base of trauma informed care and provides trauma-focused therapy for adults. Trauma focused therapy includes 4 phases: preparation/relationship building, psychoeducation/skills building, narrative creation/memory processing, and post traumatic growth/consolidation of the
self. Miranda is dedicated to continued education for extending her knowledge base around trauma and is currently enrolled in a complex trauma certification training.

Miranda not only focuses in trauma therapy with adults but also in teen mental health. Miranda loves working with teens, believing that their developmental stage to be the most vulnerable phase of life due to age related transitions and expectations. Common teen issues are depression, anxiety, impulsivity, suicidal ideation and behavior, self-harm, peer relationships, parent-child relationships, identity development, and self-esteem. While working with teens, Miranda pulls from various
psychotherapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Strengths-Based Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Polyvagal Theory. Miranda also provides support to parents to assist them with developing insight into their child’s experience and how to best support
their child’s recovery. Miranda believes parental involvement, reinforcement, and setting the example of emotional regulation is vital to a teen’s recovery.

Outside of work, Miranda enjoys reading, writing, video games, discussing personality theories such as Myers-Briggs and the Enneagram, and spending time with her two cats, Kitty and Romeo
